Tap into your inner kid this winter and try out snow tubing! It’s like your favorite sledding hill from childhood, but steeper and faster and much more fun. There are tons of great spots to tube in the Western North Carolina mountains, not far from High Rock Rentals log cabins, whether you want to make a day of it or just go for a couple hours. Here are some we recommend you check out:
Location: Seven Devils, NC
Hours: Monday-Thursday 10:00AM-6:00PM, Friday-Saturday and Holidays 10:00AM-8:00PM, Sundays 10:00AM-4:00PM
Rates: Monday-Friday $33 for 1 hour and 45 minutes, Saturdays and Holidays $42 for 1 hour and 45 minutes

What to know: Though this is just about a 2 hour ride from High Rock Rentals, Hawksnest is a top of the line slope entirely dedicated to snow tubers. They boast over 30 lanes that range from 400-1,000 feet long, with 3 magic carpet lifts to bring you back to the top of the slope. While you can buy your tickets upon arrival, we suggest reserving a spot ahead of time. Hawksnest operates in 2 hour windows, so you can book at 10AM, 12PM, 2PM, etc. They do have an on-site lodge with seating, food options, and changing areas, but it may be closed due to COVID restrictions, so plan to pack food or enjoy a local meal.
Location: Sugar Hill, NC

Rates: Monday-Friday $33 for 1 hour and 45 minutes, Weekends and Holidays $40 for 1 hour and 45 minutes

What to know: Sugar Mountain lies just an hour and a half from High Rock Rentals. Sugar Mountain is home to multiple 700 ft. lanes just for snow tubing along with what they call a "Magic Carpet Lift" that transports you to the top of the lanes. Sugar Mountain runs its snow tubing runs in predetermined sessions, the session times are 10 am, 12 pm, 2 pm, 4 pm, 6 pm, and 8 pm. There are no reservations for tickets and only a limited number of tickets are sold per session, but they have everything from an ice skating rink to guided snowshoe tours to fill your time if they only have later runs available. With plenty of food options available around the resort there are plenty of options to turn this into a wonderful day out.
Location: Hendersonville, NC
Hours: Friday 4:00PM-10:00PM, Saturday 10:00AM-10:00PM, Sunday 12:00PM-6:00PM (extended days and hours on holidays)
Rates: $30 for 2 hours

What to know: Moonshine Mountain, just over an hour drive from High Rock Rentals, boasts over 500 feet of snow tubing fun, with multiple lanes and a lift that pulls you and your tube back to the top of the slope. They do not take reservations, so you may want to call ahead and ask what the wait times are looking like before you head out. The facility also has an on-site gift shop and food truck. The food truck “All Up In My Grill” offers classic sandwiches, hot dogs, friend chicken strips, and more. You can enjoy unlimited tubing for 2 hours, grab lunch, and hang out in nearby Hendersonville when you are done!

What to know: One Hour from High Rock Rentals, Wolf Ski Ridge Resort offers skiing, snowboarding, and tubing. The tubing slopes are a half mile down the street from the main ski slope area. They offer one huge slope to tube down, at 60 feet wide and 350 feet long. The benefit of no designated lanes? Hooking your tube onto a family member or friend’s tube to maximize the fun! Additionally, the lighted slopes provide an extra thrill for those looking to tube at night. The resort has both drink and snack options available, so feel free to warm up with hot cocoa between runs.

What to know: One Hour from High Rock Rentals, Zip N Slip has 3 snow tubing lanes along with a heated solarium overlooking the slope. Night tubing is a blast here as the slope is lit up in the evening. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Zip N Slip requires you to make a reservation. You can do this on their website or by calling in. The facility also offers a variety of warm beverages and snacks to nosh on after you hit the slopes.
Location: Maggie Valley, NC
Hours: Monday-Friday 9:00AM-4:30PM, Weekends/Holidays 8:30AM-4:30PM
Rates:Monday-Friday $32 for 1 hour and 45 minutes, Weekends and Holidays $37 for 1 hour and 45 minutes
What to know: A little over an hour away from High Rock Rentals, Tube World is a manicured slope designed just for tubing! This slope is also equipped with a tube lift for ease of access. For Tube World tickets must be purchased online 2 weeks in advance. There is no age or weight limit only a height limit of 42 inches meaning more people can ride here! That being said bringing little ones is probably not the best idea as sharing tubes is prohibited. Tube World is run by the Cataloochee ski area but it is not located at the ski area! Tube World is located just outside of Maggie Valley there are plenty of local restaurants to help regain some energy after a long day of tubing!
